Tracy Clark - 10km Participant

I would like to thank the organisers of the Run from the Hills event. It was a well-run and friendly event and we enjoyed it immensely. We're certainly planning on coming back next year. Everyone we spoke to after the event had a story to tell about this run, and all of them were interesting, here is ours.

My husband is a runner, with a number of marathons and bush triathalons under his belt from when he was younger.
He's had a break for a number of years and two years ago he finally managed to convince me that I wanted to try running.

So to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary, what are we doing? My first ever 10 km run.

He stuck with me and was so supportive, he helped me when I struggled to get past my 5 km hurdle, he entertained me when I needed a boost as he River Danced at a corner, he bounced around like Tigger to stretch his legs when I was plodding like Eeyore up the hills, and he never once made me feel bad about the fact that he had stayed with me rather than running at his own pace. We ran in to the finish line together, with big grins on our faces.

While running with me meant he didn't earn a prize, he certainly earned my gratitude, and he already had my love.
Thank you for providing this beautiful run for us to enjoy together. Sincerely, Tracy (562) and Darren (556)

Ian Matthews - 21.5km Participant - Finished 2nd in the 50-59yrs Men Category

Just a quick note to say that my wife (Denise Bennett) and I ditched the City to Surf run this year for your 'Run from the Hills' event.
We drove out from Melbourne Friday night, stayed in a fab B&B in Avoca Friday night and stayed over again Saturday night (got pretty smashed at the Avoca Hotel?not too difficult when your fully dehydrated after the race). Anyway to cut a long story short, we couldn't have wished for a better weekend.

Having run multiple Six Foot Tracks, Wessex Ridgeway 100, Two Bays, Webber Challenge, JLL/JLW events I honestly thought that these types of smaller, well run events had bitten the dust. Apparently not so.. the fact that your team/volunteers all looked as though they were enjoying themselves was infectious and however tough the run was we couldn't help but be left with a great feeling about the whole weekend.

Let's not ignore the main reason for making the trip and I am not going to beat around the bush here, it's no normal bloody half marathon?I am still walking around like I have had a piece of tropical fruit inserted where the sun don't shine. The downhill sections were brutal and some of the uphills were as bad as the Pluviometer on the 6ft Track?.so all in all a very tough test of all-round off-road running ability.

Well done and thanks to you and all the team/volunteers..we will be back.
Ian and Denise

2012 Race Report:

Wow! What a day out in the Pyrenees Mountain Range - it was an overcast morning which was just as well because the temperature was still very hot for runners.

Runners started their run at 10am on the dot and were met by some tough terrain in the forest, the sight of water stations and the feed zone packed with lollies and fruit were very welcome.

Back at the event village the 7k Round The Vineyard run had kicked off and it was Trevor Kelly who surprised everyone at the Winery by returning after just 24:45 out. Jen MacPherson put in a strong effort by coming in 1st in the womens with a time of just 31:26.

In the 21.5k, Donald Campbell and Jacky Boisset were putting each other through the work and put on a great sprint finish for everyone applauding at the finish line with a time of 1:45:32 and Jacky 2seconds later.

Race Director, Rohin Adams in the car, struggled to keep up with the front runners in the 21.5k and got back just after the first men were through.

In the womens category, Tracy Wereszczuk stormed through with a great time of 2:06:32, Claire Thomas in 2nd and Samantha Howard (who entered the race on the day) in 3rd.

Once all the runners were back a 2k "Through the Vines" Junior fun run was held - with parents helping children as young as 3 years old. All kids got a lolly bag at the end of the run which put an even bigger smile on their faces!

With the sun shining it was a great finish to the day with runners and families hitting up the Mt Avoca Cellar Door.
